Building Future Business Through Forward Thinking
Hey Code Breakers,
Welcome to this week's Code Breaker Newsletter. Here, we share the best insights, tips, and stories. Learn how to break the code on your market and unlock your business's potential.
Do you ever get to the end of the year and think "damn"? I wish I'd used seasons and holidays better for my marketing.
Just like birthdays, holidays can be a great way to connect with your customers. As marketers of our business it's important that we stay top of mind. One of the best ways to do this is to get involved with what your customers are already thinking and talking about.
Trends and news are great for this. But, is there anything on our customers' minds more often than the next holiday?
Sadly, it's too easily forgotten by most of us and it's a huge miss.
"Enter the conversations that's already going on inside their head" - Dean Graziosi
The reasons most of us neglect to promote around the holidays are plentiful, but here are just a few:
It's not part of your gut instinct. Unless you're a marketer by heart you probably think of holidays the same way most people do... as an opportunity to relax and enjoy time with friends or family. If that's you, I'd encourage you to change your thinking. Think about how to use them to connect better with your clients.
We get lost in the hustle and bustle. Unless you have a detailed marketing plan (which we all should) it's easy to forget!
You think holiday promotions are only for consumer products. We get bombarded with seasonal promotions from local stores, international chains, and more. But, missing out on these opportunities is a huge risk for coaching businesses.
Leveraging these as promotional opportunities can create huge revenue surges for your business. Here are three ways you can leverage these opportunities and get the most out of what they have to offer.
Leverage Point 1: Connect With Their Experience
My dad always used to tell me, everyone is tuned into their own radio station WIIFM. What's In It For Me.
That's just one of the reasons it's important to connect with your customers where they are. They're already thinking about the holiday. But, they may not have connected you, your product, or your service with it.
Whether you leverage social media, direct email, post cards, texts, voicenotes, or voicemails. There are all sorts of ways you can connect with your customers around the holidays and be top of mind.
Leverage Point 2: Connect Through Your Experience
You can also leverage the holiday by helping your customers connect with you on a personal level.
Think about the traditions you could share or stories that are specific to you. What's a way that you connect with the holiday that would give people insight to who you are.
For example, last weekend was Mother's Day Weekend and two Monday's from now is Memorial Day. Memorial Day has always been a special day for me, long before I'd joined the Marine Corps.
Two of the most influential people in my life growing up were my two grandfathers. One served in World War II, and landing at Normandy 3 days after D-Day. The other serviced during Korea. Both played a huge part in the values I have today and joining the Marine Corps when I did.
For that reason, plus many more that I've acquired since joining the Marines, Memorial Day will always be a special day for me. A time to remember the sacrifice that was made and the calling we all have to fulfill our potential!
Leverage Point 3: Provide A Promotional Sales Or Opportunity
This one is likely obvious, but I still don't see people leveraging it as often as they could.
Holidays are a great way to share a promotion and it doesn't always have to be a discount on your product or service. It could be an opportunity to hook your audience's attention with a catchy title. Or, you could use it to create urgency for your customers. You could base it on the time of year and it bringing the end of year to mind.
There are all kinds of holidays you could consider from National Kringle Day (June 29th) to Hawaiian Shirt Day (August 16th). Here's a list of the majors for you to consider throughout promoting the rest of the year and into next year:
