Unlocking Success: The 3 Core Funnels for Coaching Businesses – Plus the Secret Weapon You Didn't Know You Needed

In my work with B2B sales consultants and NLP coaches I've discovered something. In order for the latter two categories to be in order, the first needs to be running nearly on autopilot. Why? Because we're entrepreneurs and when the business suffers, everything suffers.
Sure, you might be able to keep you health and family in order for a limited time, in preparation for a marathon, or a family get together, but long-term, the latter categories will succumb to the pressure of the first.
So how do we put our businesses on autopilot so we can focus on our lifestyle and health, without the guilt of neglecting the business???
Funnels!
Funnels are the secret sauce that every business needs. Why? Because while a combination of systems in necessary to put your entire business on autopilot, it’s funnels that will put lead generation and conversion at the fore front.
This fuels the business.
If you’re a sales consultant or NLP coach who struggles to reach your revenue goals, you’re not alone. It can be challenging to grow your coaching business and increase your sales, especially if you don’t have the right strategies in place. But fear not, because I’m here to share with you the three core funnels every coaching businesses must have and the secret weapon you didn’t know you needed to unlock your success in 2024.
1) A Tripwire Funnel: The first core funnel for your business is primarily a lead generation funnel. The term “tripwire” was originally coined by Perry Belcher and is typically a “free plus shipping” offer or a low-ticket item that directed at cold traffic or those who don’t already know you. This is all about getting potential clients interested in your services and capturing their contact information.
The key is to provide value and build trust with your potential clients so that they are more likely to become paying customers in the future.
2) A Webinar or Challenge Funnel: The next funnel in the sequence is what’s typically known as a webinar or challenge funnel. I say typically, because a lot of you may get hung up on the name. It’s not about the name. The fact is it doesn’t matter if it’s a webinar, a challenge, a workshop, an intensive, or whatever you want to call it. It’s a funnel designed to sell a mid-ticket offer at the end of it that typically ranges from $297 - $2,997.
The more scalable the offer the better (more on this later). For that reason, it could be a digital course, a group coaching program, or an easily deliverable service or package that doesn’t consume a lot of your time to deliver.
3) A High-Ticket Sales Funnel: The last of the three core funnels is the high-ticket sales funnel. For some of you, this is all you have. For others, it’s the missing link to unlocking your next level of success and revenue. Either way, it’s designed to sell a high-ticket offer that typically ranges anywhere from $3,000 to $250,000+.
And, while it’s not impossible to sell a $3,000+ product without speaking with someone, it is more difficult. Hence, high-ticket funnels are also known as Application or Phone funnels as they’ll likely results in someone applying for one of your programs or scheduling a phone call to speak with you or someone on your team or both.
4) Your Secret Weapon: Now, onto the secret weapon you didn’t know you needed to unlock your success in the new year. It’s arguably the most neglected funnel whether you leverage funnels or not. It’s called…
The Follow Up Funnel: Also known as Iceberg funnels, follow up funnels take on many forms. Almost like a chameleon. They can be welcome sequences, ascension sequences, re-engagement sequences, value add sequences, and on and on. Most of the coaches and consultants I know put minimal effort into these but here’s a simple fact to consider: If roughly 50% of buyers are emotional buyers, and the other 50% of buyers are logical buyers, what percentage of sales have you been leaving on the table based on the quality of your current follow up sequence?
